The process of floor sanding returns the original wooden floorboards to their stunning, first-laid look. The process has four stages which prepares, sands and finishes the wood to perfection.
The process begins with the repair stage. Here, we remove all the unwanted damage which has been done to the wood over the years. This damage includes nails, tacks, glues and other substances used to keep the former floor coverings in place. By removing these items, we can proceed with the renovation of the floor by filling in all holes, gaps and cracks.
The next stage is sanding. The floor is sanded with a range of different sandpapers. We usually use four different grades, each one removing a layer from the wood. This is performed gently to give the even and smooth finish to the floor. The natural contours of the wood are highlighted at this stage and the true beauty of the timbers shines forth.
The third stage is the finishing process. Here the floor is stained to lock in the rich natural wood. The staining process accentuates the wood effects of the timber. The colours reflect the original wood used to lay the flooring. The smooth, even stage of sanding allows the staining process to look attractive and more natural.
The final stage is the varnishing. This stage allows you to bring your own personality in to the room. This can reflect the character of the house, style of the room and your own personality. The varying shades of varnish used can highlight or compliment the room. The different textures, from shiny to matt, bring the life back to the wood. This brings the room alive and makes it even more welcoming.
